Chaos at Howe Community Park Results in Four Victims Wounded in Arden-Arcade Sacramento
Officials in Sacramento County are investigating a gunfire incident that took place on April 18 2026 at Howe Community Park as deputies were dissolving an unlawful assembly of an estimated several hundred individuals.
Prior to the Shooting
Officers from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office initially responded to Howe Community Park just after 6:30 PM after receiving reports of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. After that, a second caller reported describing a possible physical fight breaking out near the park.
Air support was sent to survey the area but could not confirm any ongoing fight. Even so, deputies found that hundreds of people had packed into the park without authorization.
How the Shooting Unfolded
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies moved to clear the area by encircling the gathering and making announcements commanding the assembled crowd to go home. Roughly 15 minutes were allotted for individuals to vacate.
Just as the crowd began to move that 20 to 25 gunshots cut through the air. The barrage of gunfire sent hundreds fleeing. Responding personnel at once began looking for those injured.
Four People Shot
Ultimately, four gunshot victims were located with gunshot injuries. All four — including a female and three males each apparently in their mid to late twenties — were transported to hospitals in the Sacramento area. Doctors and nurses stated that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one of the four had moderate gunshot wounds, and one suffered minor injuries. Thankfully, all four victims survived and were stable.
Metro Fire Sacramento arrived on scene and helped care for shooting victims on location.
Physical Evidence
The main crime scene was believed to have been concentrated near the Cottage Way side of the park near the Home Depot on the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Law enforcement investigators found more spent casings on Cottage Way. Round impacts were observed in the wrought iron fence alongside the Home Depot store. The physical evidence pointed to that at least one shooter had been firing southward from Cottage Way toward the Home Depot. The Home Depot was locked down as a precaution. Crime scene personnel remained on scene through the early morning hours.
Suspect Information
Reports confirmed through scanner monitoring established that a Kia connected to the shooting was intercepted in Solano County. Four individuals were in the vehicle Sacramento park shooting 2026 at the time of the stop. Law enforcement units were sent to retrieve the detainees to collect the individuals for questioning. Video reviewed at the scene made clear that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
